As an alternative to Kealakekua Bay's overcrowded waters, try snorkeling one or more of our stunning local sites instead - only accessible via boat. With just 10 to 15 minute boat rides instead of 45-minute ones, you'll spend more time snorkeling up close with gorgeous fish at one or both reefs nearby - meaning less time spent sitting on the boat means more time spent snorkeling! Plus you can discover volcanic formations made by past lava flows as well as arches made by them!
Duration: 2.5 hours Our afternoon snorkeling excursion to Pawai Bay takes place - weather permitting and only accessible by boat - with ocean permits only accessible to guests by boat. That section of coastline was set aside specifically for native Hawaiian children only and non-natives were ineligible to visit this part. Luckily for us we were allowed to moor there and share its stunning shallow reef wildlife along with educational briefings about what wildlife there may be there; with its abundance of endemic fish species present here this area teems with life!
