This short and steep climb rewards hikers with possibly the best views in all of Oahu. You’ll find the hike in the town of Kailua on Oahu’s east coast. And it’s just a half-hour drive from Waikiki.
This is a moderately difficult hike despite the fact that it’s just -- miles to the top. It gets this grade because of the steady, steep climb up to the viewpoint. Only challenge this hike if you’re in moderately good shape.
You’ll find pillbox bunkers at the top of this hike. These bunkers were installed by the US military in the early parts of the 20th Century to lookout over the ocean for the enemy. Atop the bunkers, you’ll get impressive views of Oahu’s windward side, including breathtaking views of the town and beach below.
Once you reach the second pillbox bunker, you’ve reached the top of the hike. Most hikers enjoy the view before turning around to climb back down to the parking lot. But you can continue along the path to join up with the challenging Kaiwa Ridge Trail which will take you further down the coast.
