At the summit, we'll traverse Pa Ka'oao Trail and observe ancient rock walls, shelters, and an amazing crater view. Additionally, we will take a short walk to investigate an endangered Silversword plant before gazing upon the distant islands such as Lana'i, Kaho'olawe and Hawai'i (Big Island).
After enjoying a delicious refreshment of fresh pineapple and banana bread, our tour will continue with a stroll through a cloud forest featuring a century-old grove of cedars, pines, spruces & eucalyptus trees & eucalyptus; along the way we'll study its flora, fauna and impacts of invasive species while watching for native birds & listening out for their calls!
After our descent from Maui's mountain peak, we will enjoy a leisurely luncheon at Kahului Food Truck Park (lunch not included), before driving into 'Iao Valley, the sunken caldera of our western volcano. Here we will visit an iconic 2,200-foot natural basalt tower used as a war watchtower and explore a path which features Maui's largest stream, native Hawaiian vegetation and agriculture system as well as cultural gardens created to pay homage to those ethnicities who arrived and settled among plantations plants in colonization efforts.
