The Pihea trail is a moderately difficult 4 mile trek that leads into the Alakai Swamp. Like the Alakai Swamp trail, it is equipped with boardwalks. However, keep in mind that this trail is still one of the wettest on the island. Be mindful of mud - there are many muddy shoe graveyards hidden among the views of Kalalau valley.
Pihea Trail is found at Pu'u O Kila lookout at the end of Koke'e State Park on Highway 550. This trail can also be followed into the Alaka'i swamp trail if you take the boardwalk down to a crossroads, where it will be indicated by a sign.
