The fertile Wailua River Valley is the only river in Hawaii that is accessible by boat. Wailua River State Park offers a wide range of activities revolving around the river, including a boat ride to the Fern Grotto, two waterfalls, and foliage-wrapped caves. The park is also home to the Wailua Complex of Heiau, a collection of several historical sites associated with the Haiwaiian royals who ruled prior to colonization.
Unlike most other state parks on Kauai, Wailua River State Park does not offer any camping. It can be driven to from Highway 56. For up to date information of boating events, view the park's website here.
