The Waipoo Falls Trail is known as the best family trail on Kauai for its unique challenge blended with a unique view. While most tourists opt to see Waipoo falls from a distance, you can take a 2-mile hike to see the 800-foot waterfall up close (although you will only see the first 25 feet of the falls).
The hike through the trail is a 3.6-mile round trip which includes a hike through the forest and two views of Waimea canyon. The trailhead can be difficult to find - to access it, drive up Highway 550 into Kokee state park. After you pass Waimea canyon, continue 4 miles until you see a dirt road past mile marker 14 that leads into the canyon. The trail head is located on a dirt parking spot to the left.
